Social Dyads

A dyad is an interaction between 2 children, supported by a Wanna Play facilitator. Facilitators at The Wanna Play Program encourage parents to consider a dyad, prior to enrolling their child in a group session. A step up from an individual session, a dyad begins to introduce reciprocal interactions with peers, including initiation, play skill and social communication. Since the skills are encouraged while interacting with a peer, facilitators are attempting to create a practical situation for the child to learn the skills necessary to generalize appropriate interaction and social communication outside of The Wanna Play Program.  A social dyad is suggested when concerns for interaction in a larger group is a concern.  A dyad allows a stepping stone between one-on-one interaction of a facilitator and the more complex social interactions that occur in group of 3-5 children.  Following successful completion of a dyad, parents are encouraged to enroll their child in a social group session to further encourage social growth in a facilitated environment.
